DRAGNET NODE v5 - print notes
Magnetic Norse  ::  magneticnorse.com

WHAT THIS IS
A prop. A hollow plastic model of an automated license plate reader, drawn from
measurements I took myself. It does not see anything, record anything, or connect
to anything, and it is not a working camera of any kind.

Do not mount one in public. Do not put one anywhere it could be mistaken for
equipment somebody paid for, and do not leave one where a person would reasonably
believe they are being recorded.

FILES
  DragnetNode_v5_body.stl the camera body. 79.6 x 58 x 158 mm. Watertight, one body.
  DragnetNode_v5_mount.stl the pole bracket. 68 x 30 x 56 mm.
dragnet_node_v5.scad the parametric source. Open it in OpenSCAD to resize.
R_iso.png what it looks like assembled.

PRINTING THE BODY - LAY IT ON ITS BACK
The back is dead flat, so it is the natural bed face. The face, the plate, the IR
ring and the whole hood then print as top surfaces, and the arch under the brim
needs no support at all.
Supports: ONLY under the bottom mount stub, which floats about 9 mm in this
orientation. Paint-on support there, blockers everywhere else, or
             just accept one small scar.
Filament: DARK. Light colours make it read as a toy.
  Draft: 0.6 nozzle, 0.28 layers.
Good one: 0.2 layers. 10 to 15 percent infill either way.
Resizing: scale in the slicer, or edit H in the .scad.

PRINTING THE BRACKET
Flat face down. No supports.

HARDWARE
2x M4x40 through the bracket wings into the rear pilot holes. They self-tap in PLA.
2x zip ties through the slots, riding the front channels.
The bottom stub socket takes 3/4 inch EMT conduit (23.4 mm OD) or a 22 mm handle,
  with an M4 side set-screw.

MOLDED IN
MAGNETIC NORSE, raised, on the face.
PROP / NOT A / CAMERA, cut into the back.
Leave both on. They are what tells anybody who picks one up what it is.

WHERE IT CAME FROM
Somebody asked to buy the prop I was holding in a video. The model I had been
printing was licensed for personal use, so I measured the real thing and wrote
this one from scratch in OpenSCAD. No mesh was imported, edited or exported at any
point. The .scad in this folder is the whole of it.

TERMS
Do what you want with it. Print it, sell prints of it, remix it, no permission
needed and no attribution required. If you leave my name on the face I would take
that kindly, and if you take it off, that is on you.

If you want one printed for you instead, or you want to know when the next thing
lands, it is all at magneticnorse.com/merch.
